The Three Horse Shoes
The Three Horseshoes public house was demolished in 1949/50 according to witness Maurice Sharpe by Tinson's builders, and it was one of the last timber framed buildings still to survive in the town. It was located in Market Street which used to have the name Swine Market. This was where the market for Pigs took place. The hooks for the pig pens can be seen on the old photograph below the windows. The name is derived from the Blacksmith's business in Church Lane situated on the same plot of land which connects Market Street and Church Lane (see map). It has been possible to trace back through property records which show that the 'Horseshoes Inn' was built by John and Mary Easton sometime around 1750 as a diversification from the Blacksmith business. See references below.
