WW1 heroes in the Pocklington area
The 100th anniversary of the opening of World War 1 on 4th August 1914 was commemorated at Pocklington war memorial on Sunday 3rd August 2014. Below we hope to provide as many photographs as possible of those that fell or took part in the war. If you have any family photos please send them in. Some photos and descriptions below are from a rare copy of 'Whitehead's old Almanac and Directory for 1917' kindly provided by John Derrick (Whitehead's shop was in the Market Place). Text directly from the directory is enclosed in [brackets]. The Pocklington WW1 memorial records the names of the fallen. Thanks to Trevor Brigham for providing extra information about the various individuals.
